Tattoo Novice or Pro . . . things you ought to know . . . Part 2

Our second topic focuses on . . .

The Artists – There are many different artists and styles. Find one whose style resonates with you or who specializes in the type of tattoo you’re looking for. Not all artists are capable of doing a variety of styles. They may tell you they can, but make sure to check out their website, online portfolio and/or social media to get an idea of their style and range and most importantly their skill. It is also important to know what kind of training they’ve had. The only way to learn to tattoo is by getting an apprenticeship with an established artist. There are no tattoo schools and tattooing cannot be self-taught or learned by watching YouTube videos. An artist must also be trained in preventing disease transmission in tattooing, bloodborne pathogens and infection control at the very least. Ask questions; don’t be shy or afraid to ask anything you’re concerned about or interested in. A professional artist will welcome questions and take the time to answer them to your satisfaction. If they are unable to answer any of your questions or act irritated or blow you off, RUN!!!
